Nov.28.01: Light For The Day - "Feelings or Fact?"

-- Psalms 86:15 (NIV)
"But You, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness."

---------------------
The story is told that someone ask Martin Luther (1483-1546)
if he "felt" that he had been forgiven. His reply:

"No, but I'm as sure
As there's a God in Heaven.
For feelings come, and feelings go,
And feelings are deceiving.
My warrant is the Word of God,
Nothing else is worth believing."

And thus it has remained with all men down through the ages.
Many times we may come to the place where it is difficult to "feel" forgiven. That is where faith comes in. And the very basis of the Christian faith is a belief in a God that cannot lie.

"I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"-
and you forgave the guilt of my sin." (Psalm 32:5)

------------------------------------
-- Isaiah 1:18
"Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD.
"Though your sins are like scarlet,
I can make you as white as snow.
Even if you are stained as red as crimson,
I can make you as white as wool."

-- 1John 1:8-9 (NIV)
"8 If we claim to be without sin,
we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and
will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar
and His word has no place in our lives."
