Nov.29.01: Light For The Day -"Feelings or Fact?"

-- Psalm 9:10 (NIV)
"Those who know Your name will trust in You, for You,
LORD, have never forsaken those who seek You."

-----------------------------
Ever play hide and seek as a kid? You know, where the other kids
counted to 100 while you found the best secret spot, then they came
hunting for you. But what if your hiding place was too good?
What if they looked and looked but could not find you?
Well, probably you'd help them out a little. You'd cough or sneeze
to give them a clue, to keep them in the game. Or else you'd burst
out of your hiding place crowing victory. Yes, the whole point is to
find a good hiding place, but eventually you want to be found.

People often play hide and seek with God. It started in the Garden
of Eden, when Adam and Eve sinned and then id from God because
they were ashamed. We've been playing that game ever since.
There are many times when we'd prefer not to be found by Him.
We've got our own thing happening, and we know God will just
make us feel guilty. So we pretend He's not there.
We say we believe in God, but we live as if we don't.

The wonderful news of the Bible is that God seeks us.
He wants to be with us, and He'll hunting for us. Many Christians
today are former hiders, living proof of the tenacity of God.

But sometimes it seems that God is hiding from people.
The Creator can appear to be distant. When things aren't
going well, we might fear that He's abandoned us.

But the psalmist assures us that God won't stay hidden for long.
He wants us to find Him. Any minute now, He'll burst out of His
hiding place with a big grin. "See, I was here all along!"
He does not forsake those who seek Him.

Our world is full of spiritual seekers. The crass materialism of
past decades has yielded a generation of folks who know there
must be something more than wealth and pleasure.
Today's verse is great news for these people. The living God is
there for you, and He will be found, if you keep searching.

-- Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)
"You will seek me and find me when
you seek me with all your heart."

-- Isaiah 55:6,7 (NIV)
"Seek the LORD while He may be found;
call on Him while He is near.
7 Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts.
Let him turn to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him,
and to our God, for He will freely pardon."
