July.09.02: Light For The Day - "PRAISE TO THE LORD"

-- Psalms 106:1 (NIV)
"Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD,
for He is good; His love endures forever."

----------------------------
In the A.D. 406 a 16-year-old English boy named Patrick was captured by Irish pirates and sold as a slave in Ireland. Later he escaped, trained for the priesthood, and returned to Ireland as a missionary, where he played a central role in converting the Irish to Christianity.

This prayer, developed from Patrick's original version, helps us sense what it can mean for us to be ever aware of Jesus, triumphant with the Father on heaven's throne. I bind unto myself today.

----------------------

The power of God to hold and lead,
His eye to watch, His might to stay,
His ear to harken to my need.

The wisdom of my God to teach,
His hand to guide, His shield to ward;

The word of God to give me speech,
His heavenly host to be my guard.

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in mouth of friend or stranger.

I bind unto myself the Name,
The strong Name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One, the One in Three,
Of whom all nature hath creation;
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word,
Praise to the LORD of my salvation,
Salvation is of Christ the LORD.

-- (Patrick)

--------------------
-- Psalms 112:1 (NIV)
"Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
who finds great delight in his commands."

-- Psalms 103:
"2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-
20 Praise the LORD, you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.
21 Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts,
you his servants who do his will.
22 Praise the LORD, all his works everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the LORD, O my soul."
