July.25.02: Light For The Day - "Pray Always"

-- Psalms 43:4 (NIV)
"Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight.
I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God."

----------------------
No one should give the answer that it is impossible for a Christian
occupied with worldly cares to pray always. You can set up an
altar to God in your mind by means of prayer.
And so it is fitting to pray at your trade, on a journey,
standing at a counter or sitting at your handicraft.
-- John Chrysostom

-----------------
Today, at your place of work or in your home -- wherever you spend
most of your days, find a place that you can secretly consider your altar; the counter, the desk, the workbench, the sewing machine, the kitchen sink -- wherever you spend a lot of time. And then allow that place to be a reminder of God's presence with you as you work.

The story is told of a farmer who stopped his plow at the end of every
tenth round of his long furrowed field for a few moments of prayer.
He said that not only was his strength renewed but the horses had
more endurance for the day's work.

What's the equivalent of the furrowed field where you work?

Find a way to regularly pray every day as you go about your daily routine.

---------------------
Prayer continues in the desire of the heart,
though the mind is employed on outward things.
-- John Wesley.

-- Jude 1:20 (NIV)
"But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most
holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit."

-- Ephesians 6:18 (NIV)
"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers
and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on
praying for all the saints."

-- Mark 14:38 (NIV)
"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.
The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."

-- Romans 8:26 (NIV)
"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself
intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express."
