Dec.05.03: Light For The Day -
"The Bible - God's Road Map and Journal All In One"

-- Psalm 119:105
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."

--------------------
When you consider that the Bible was written in three different languages over a period of fifteen hundred years by more than forty different authors, the fact that it remains thematically consistent from beginning to end is truly remarkable. But what is even more remarkable is that people still find the Bible as applicable to their lives today as when it was first written thousands of years ago.

The reason? The Bible doesn't just quote long and complicated rules for living. Instead, it shows readers through stories and examples what happens when they choose to follow or to disobey those rules. Since the struggles that the characters in the Bible deal with are typically similar to the ones people experience today, reader can relate to them and learn from that biblical person handled or failed to handle a situation.

Suppose you are facing an overwhelming challenge in your life. Turning to Proverbs 3:5, you read: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and learn not on your own understanding." Sounds great, but how do you put this into practice in your own life? Flipping forward to Matthew 14, you discover the story of Peter, who trusted Christ enough to step over the side of the boat and actually begin to walk across the water. However, the moment he began to trust in his own understanding, he lost faith and started to sink.

Of course, to apply the Bible to your life, you first have to read and comprehend what it is saying. Start by reading enough of the story to get an idea of the context in which it is set. Don't just read one verse here and there, but tackle a whole chapter at a time. Use a Bible handbook or study Bible to find out what the passage meant to the people at the time it was written. Now you're ready to determine what it means to you in your current situation.

Not only is the Bible God's road map to keep you from losing your way in life, but it is also a personal journal of the people whose stories are recorded in it. Through the experience and struggles of these people, God will give you the wisdom to solve problems, the ability to distinguish right from wrong, and the inspiration to follow the examples of those who obeyed Him. So don't miss out! Read the Bible - God's road map and journal all in one.

-- 2 Timothy 3:16,17
"16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped
for every good work."

-- Psalms 18:30
As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless.
He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him.

-- John 1:1-4
"1 In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through Him all things were made;
without Him nothing was made that has been made.
4 In Him was life, and that life was the light of men."

-- Hebrews 4:12
"For the word of God is living and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to
dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow;
it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

-- 1 John 2:5,6
"5 But if anyone obeys His word, God’s love is truly made
complete in him. This is how we know we are in Him:
6 Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did."
