June.29.04: Light for the Day - "Security"

-- 2 Timothy 2:19
"Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal:
"The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

----------------
There are not many things in life that can be considered totally secure and immovable. However, the ground is usually one of them. Yet, all it takes is a shifting fault line to remind you even the solid foundation beneath your feet is not fully trustworthy.

God has no fault lines. His promises, power, truth, and love are your only true security. When the world around you starts to shake, relationships shift, your health crumbles, or your finances threaten to fall off the deep end, remind yourself of Whom you're standing on for support. Rest the full weight of your troubles on the all-powerful God. He's a foundation that will never fail.

-- 1 Corinthians 3:11
For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

-- 1 Timothy 6:19
Storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

-- Nahum 1:7
The LORD is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.

-- Proverbs 19:23
Fear of the LORD gives life, security, and protection from harm.

-- Matthew 7:24-27
24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26 But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

-- Proverbs 3:19-27
19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens;
20 By His knowledge the depths were broken up, And clouds drop down the dew.
21 My son, let them not depart from your eyes-Keep sound wisdom and discretion;
22 So they will be life to your soul And grace to your neck.
23 Then you will walk safely in your way, And your foot will not stumble.
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.
25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes;
26 For the LORD will be your security, And will keep your foot from being caught.
27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in the power of your hand to do so.

-- Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.
