Sept.02.04: Light for the Day - "Thoughts"
-- Psalms 51:10
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
-- Romans 12:2
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect His will really is.
---------------
Every action, attitude, and plan for the future begins in one place: your mind.
That's why God cares so much about what's going on in your cranium.
What you spend time thinking about determines you will spend time doing - and ultimately who you will become.
Before you knew God, your thoughts pretty much centered around one thing: you - meeting your own needs, keeping yourself happy.
But times have changed. So should your thoughts.
Notice where you let your mind wander. If it heads down any road you feel God would prefer you not to go, consciously change directions.
If certain activities negatively influence your thoughts, find alternative ways to spend your time.
Changing your mind really can change your life.
-- G's A.D.
-------------
-- Proverbs 14:15
A simple man believes anything,
but a prudent man gives thought to his steps.
-- Proverbs 17:28
Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent,
and discerning if he holds his tongue.
------
Our best friends and our worst enemies are our thoughts.
A thought can do us more good than a doctor or a banker or a faithful friend.
It can also do us more harm than a brick
-- Frank Crane
It concerns us to keep a strict guard upon our thoughts,
because God takes particular notice of them.
-- Matthew Henry
Think positively and masterfully, with confidence and faith,
and life becomes more secure, more fraught with action,
richer in achievement and experience.
-- Eddie Rickenbacker
-------------
-- Isaiah 55:8-11
8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways My ways," declares the LORD.
9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.
10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is My word that goes out from My mouth:
It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
-- 1 Corinthians 2:11-16
11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him?
In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.
13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.
14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment:
16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
-- Ezekiel 36:26
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you;
I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
-- Philippians 4:8
Keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper.
Don't ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.
-- Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
-- Psalms 139:23
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
-- Proverbs 4:23
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
