Sept.21.04: Light for the Day - "Word of God"

-- Psalm 119:97
Oh, how I love Your law!
I meditate on it all day long.

---------------------
The first thing I did, after having asked in a few words the Lord's blessing upon His precious Word, was to begin to meditate on the Word of God, searching as it were every verse to get a blessing out of it; not for the sake of the public ministry of the Word, nor for the shake of preaching on what I meditated upon, but for the sake of obtaining food for my own soul.

The result I have found to be almost invariably this that after a very few minutes my soul has been led to confession, or to thanksgiving, or to intercession, or to supplication; so that, though I did not, as it were, give myself to prayer, but to meditation, yet it turned almost immediately more or less into prayer.

-- George Mueller

When prayers is hard to start, lay it aside and begin with the Word. Read a psalm and meditate on it for a moment. Then turn it into a prayer. Your spirit will soon be soaring in prayer. Fellowship with the written Word turns into fellowship with the Living Word.

-- N.H.

"The mightiest prayers are often those drenched with the Word of God."
-- Herbert Lockyer

---------------
-- 2 Timothy 3:15-17
15 And how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

-- Psalms 18:30
As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless.  He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him.

-- Psalms 119:165
Great peace have they who love Your law,
and nothing can make them stumble.

-- Proverbs 30:5
Every word of God is pure;
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

-- Joshua 1:8
Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

-- Deuteronomy 6:6-8
6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.
7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

-- Psalm 1:1-3
1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

-- Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

-- 1 Thessalonians 2:13
For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

-- 1 Peter 1:23
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

-- Psalm 119:9-20
9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to Your word.

10 I seek You with all my heart;
do not let me stray from Your commands.

11 I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.
12 Praise be to You, O LORD; teach me Your decrees.
13 With my lips I recount all the laws that come from Your mouth.
14 I rejoice in following Your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.
15 I meditate on Your precepts and consider Your ways.
16 I delight in Your decrees; I will not neglect Your word.
17 Do good to Your servant, and I will live; I will obey Your word.
18 Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in Your law.
19 I am a stranger on earth; do not hide Your commands from me.
20 My soul is consumed with longing for Your laws at all times.
