Mar.29.05: Light for the Day - "If There Is No God …"
-- John 1:1-5
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.
4 In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.
5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
----------------------------
In his book, Reasonable Faith, William Lane Craig puts it this way:
Man, writes Loren Eiseley, is the Cosmic Orphan. He is the only creature in the universe who
asks, “Why?” Other animals have instincts to guide them, but man has learned to ask questions.
“Who am I?” man asks.
“Why am I here? Where am I going?”
Since the Enlightenment, when he threw off the shackles of religion, man has tried to answer these questions without reference to
God. The answers that came back were not exhilarating, but dark and terrible.
“You are an
accidental by-product of nature, a result of matter plus time plus chance. There is no reason for
your existence. All you face is death.”
Modern man thought that when he had gotten rid of God, he had freed himself from all that
repressed and stifled him. Instead, he discovered that in killing God, he had also killed himself.
For if there is no God, then man’s life becomes absurd.
-- Isaiah 45:5,21
5 I am the LORD; there is no other God. I have prepared you, even though you do not know
Me,
21 Consult together, argue your case, and state your proofs that idol worship pays. Who made
these things known long ago? What idol ever told you they would happen? Was it not I, the
LORD? For there is no other God but Me—a just God and a Savior—no, not one!

-- Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe
that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
-- Jeremiah 29:11-13
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of
evil, to give you a future and a hope.
12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

-- Genesis 1:1, 26
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish
of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures
that move along the ground."
-- Psalms 33:6
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
-- Psalms 102:25
In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your
hands.
-- Psalms 10:4
In his pride the wicked does not seek God;
in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
-- Psalms 14,[53]:1-3
1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no
one who does good.
2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who
understand, any who seek God.
3 All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not
even one.
-- Revelation 1:8
"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God,
"Who is, and Who was, and Who is to come, the Almighty."
-- Revelation 22:13
I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End.
