May.23.05: Lftd - "Collecting Cookbooks"

-- Psalms 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

-- 2 Peter 1:2-11
May God bless you with His special favor and wonderful peace as you come to know Jesus, our God and Lord, better and better.

"Collecting Cookbooks"

The Wall Street Journal reported that nearly one thousand different cookbooks are published each year in America, many of them glossy, full-color, and very expensive. But at the same time, fewer and fewer people are cooking, and increasing numbers are eating in restaurants. The reporter for the Journal interviewed one lady, a portfolio manager in New York; she has acquired sixteen cookbooks in the last four years and subscribes to two cooking magazines. But the last time she prepared a sit-down meal was year ago, “and,” she said, “it didn’t turn out.”

There are more Bible translations, study aids, and devotional books now than ever. Christian publishing is a big business in America. But for all that, people are reading and studying their Bible less and less

-- 2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right.
17 It is God’s way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do.

-- Colossians 1:5-6
3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,
4 because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people --
5 The faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the Word of truth, the Good News of the Gospel.
6 This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is changing lives everywhere, just as it changed yours that very first day you heard and understood the truth about God’s grace of great kindness to sinners.

-- 1 John 2:5-6
5 But if anyone obeys His word, God’s love is truly made complete in Him. This is how we know we are in Him:
6 Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.

-- John 8:31,32,36
31 Jesus said to the people who believed in Him,
"You are truly My disciples if you keep obeying My teachings.
32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
36 So if the Son sets you free, you will indeed be free.

-- 1 John 5:21
Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.

-- Psalms 119:9-11
9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to Your word.
10 I seek You with all my heart;
do not let me stray from Your commands.
11 I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.

-- Psalms 18:28
You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning;
my God turns my darkness into light.
