June.03.06: Light for the Day - "The
Marvelous Gift of Forgiveness"
-- 1 John 1:9-10
9 If we Confess our sins,
He is Faithful and Just and will Forgive us our sins and
Purify us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar
and showing that His Word has no place in our lives.
-- Romans 4:7-8 (Psalm
32:1-2)
7 Blessed are they whose transgressions are Forgiven,
And whose sins are Covered;
8 Blessed is the man to whom the LORD shall not Impute sin.
----------------------------
Gift giving and getting can be a tricky business. Haven't you
received gifts that just didn't suit you at all? Stuff like a baggy
sweater that reaches halfway to your kneecaps, a pink polo
shirt, pots and pans (you don't cook), a plaid sport coat,
another set of nail clippers, the list could go on forever.
It's easy to see that the giver meant well, but .... you probably
had those gifts packed up and ready to return to the store
by sundown.
You have been given one Gift, however, that you'd never want
to throw away, give away, or return to the store. That is the Gift
of God's Forgiveness. This Marvelous Gift has the power to free
you from the torment that guilt and regret bring to your life.
It can help you put the past behind you and open your eyes to
the bright future you have before you. It can renew your sense
of worth and restore you to fellowship with God and with others.
The poet Alexander Pope once said,
"To err is human, to Forgive - Divine." This pretty much sums up
the human condition -- we all make mistakes and need God's
Divine Forgiveness in our lives. That is why Forgiveness is such
an Incredible Gift. When you are truly sorry for the wrongs you
have done, He Forgives you and wipes the slate clean.
In His eyes, it is like your wrongs never happened.
Are you struggling with sin that you feel in too big for God to
Forgive? Remember that no sin is unForgivable in God's eyes.
There may be consequences to deal with in this life -- broken
relationships that can't be mended, broken laws that require
a penalty, ... But God will be there to help you see your way
through the consequences if you place your trust in Him.
Maybe you think your sin is too small for God to notice. Do you
imagine that little white lies and careless indiscretions will take
care of themselves? They may not have great consequences
in this life, but left unForgiving, they will obstruct your fellowship
with a Holy and Just God.
Whether your sins are big or small, they need to be plunged into
the sea of God's Forgiveness. Until they are, you will be unable
to live a life filled with peace. You will be unable to fulfill the
wonderful plans God has for you.
How do you obtain this Gift of Forgiveness? That part is simple.
All you do is "Ask For It." Ask God to wash you clean with the
Precious Blood of Jesus. Confess each sinful thought and act.
Ask with a Humble Repentant Heart.
Perhaps Mark Twain summed it up best. He said,
"Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel
that has crushed it." It is an Awesome Gift from God that you'd
never want to return.

For God so loved the world that He gave His One and
Only Son,

Eternal Life.

While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Totally Committed to Doing what is Right.

Himself,
no longer Counting people’s sins against them.

From that time on Jesus began to Preach, "Turn from

Repent.
-- Ecclesiastes 7:20
Surely there is no one on earth so righteous as to do good
without ever sinning.
-- Romans 3:10-12, 20, 23
10 As the Scriptures say: "None is righteous, no, not one;
11 No one understands, No one seeks for God.
12 All have turned away from God;
Together they have all gone wrong;
No one does what is right, not even one."
(Psalms 14:1-3; 53:1-3; Eccles. 7:20)
20 Therefore No one will be Declared Righteous in God's sight
by Observing the Law;
Rather, through God's Law we Become
Conscious of sin.
23 For all have sinned; all fall short of God's glorious standard.
-- Mark 1:4
And so John came, Baptizing in the desert region and

-- Matthew 6:12-15
12 And Forgive us our sins,
just as we have Forgiven those who have sinned against us.
13 And don’t let us Yield to Temptation,
but Deliver us from the evil one.
14 If you Forgive those who sin against you,
your Heavenly Father will Forgive you.
15 But if you Refuse to Forgive others,
your Father will not Forgive your sins.

But I tell you: Love your enemies and

If your brother sins, Rebuke him, and if he Repents, Forgive him.
-- Ephesians 4:32

Forgiving each other, just as in Christ God Forgave you.
-- 1 Timothy 1:15
This is a True saying, and everyone should
Believe it:
Christ Jesus Came into the world to Save sinners --
of whom I am the worst.
-- Luke 24:45-47
45 Then Jesus Opened their minds so they could
Understand the Scriptures.
46 He told them, "This is what is Written:
The Christ will Suffer and Rise from the dead on the third day,
47 and Repentance and Forgiveness of sins will be Preached
in His Name to All Nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
-- Acts 2:37-38; 10:43; 13:38
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and
said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
38 Peter replied, "Repent and be Baptized, every one of you,
in the Name of Jesus Christ for the Forgiveness of your sins.
And you will Receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit."
10:43 All the prophets Testify about Him that everyone who
Believes in Him Receives Forgiveness of sins through
His Name.
13:38 Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that
through Jesus the Forgiveness of sins is
Proclaimed to you.
------------------------------
-- 2 Chronicles 7:14
If My people who are called by My Name will Humble themselves,
and Pray and Seek My face, and Turn from their wicked ways,

will Heal their land.
-- Isaiah 1:18
"Come now, let us Reason together,"
says the LORD.

it.

they are like scarlet, They shall be as White as fresh snow;

Wool."
-- Isaiah 55:6-7
6 Seek the LORD while He may be found,

But whoever Confesses and Renounces them finds Mercy.
-- Psalms 51:2-5
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And Cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I Acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is always before me.
4 Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil
in Your Sight, so that You are Proved Right when
You Speak and Justified when You Judge.
5 Surely I was sinful at birth,
Sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
-- Psalm 32:1-6
1 Blessed are those whose transgression is Forgiven,
whose sin is Covered.
2 Blessed are those to whom the LORD Imputes no iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is No Deceit.
3 While I Kept Silence,
my body Wasted away through my Groaning all day long.
4 For day and night Your hand was Heavy upon me;
my Strength was Dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah
5 Then I Acknowledged my sin to You,
and I Did Not Hide my iniquity;
I said, "I will Confess my transgressions to the
LORD,"
and You Forgave the Guilt of my sin." Selah
6 Therefore let all who are Faithful offer Prayer to You;
That they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.
-- Daniel 9:4-5, 9-10, 19-20
4 I Prayed to the LORD my God and Confessed:
"O Lord, the Great and Awesome God, who Keeps His
Covenant
of Love with all who Love Him and Obey His Commands.
5 We have sinned and done wrong.
We have been wicked and have rebelled.
We have turned away from Your Commands and Laws.
9 The Lord our God is Merciful and Forgiving,
even though we have rebelled against Him.
10 We have not Obeyed the LORD our God or
Kept the Laws He Gave us through His servants the prophets.
19 O Lord, Hear! O Lord, Forgive! O Lord, Listen and Act!
For Your Own sake, O my God, do not delay,
For Your people and Your City bear Your Name."
20 While I was Speaking and Praying,
Confessing my sin and the sin of my people and
Making my Request to the LORD my God for His Holy mountain.
