July.14.06: Light for the Day - “Read
God's Manual"

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name

Heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but
My Words will never pass away.

But the Word of the LORD stands forever" (Isaiah 40:6-8).
And this is the Word which by the Gospel was preached to you.

You know what a computer hacker is. Some hackers use password
decoders to connect to places they aren't supposed to be,
and do things they aren't supposed to do.
Others are called hackers because they try to figure out how software
works without reading the instructions. It's a challenge for them.
Can they work their way through a problem without reading the manual?
Some people live like that spiritually. They try to break God's password
and get into Heaven by some way other than trusting in Jesus Christ.
Needless to say, it doesn't work (John 14:6).
And followers of Christ sometimes try to live without following the
Code Book God has given them. They believe they are special.
They don't have to obey the rules. They don't realize how serious sin is.
Believers in Jesus need to read and know God's Manual.
This isn't a "Readme.txt" we can overlook. Otherwise, we will
stumble through life without direction.
But it's not enough just to read God's Word. "Do not merely listen to the
Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says" (James 1:22).
Obedience is the key. Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commands"
(John 14:15).
We need to tune our "input" device to God's Moral Code,
read the
Word of God, and not resist the voice of the Holy Spirit.
If He says, "No," we must obey Him (Heb. 3:7-8; Revelation 2, 3).
And let's not forget about our "output". Remember that Jesus commanded
us to go and tell others about His love, His forgiveness, His salvation
and His future blessings (Matthew 28:19-20).
Our hardware (salvation in Jesus Christ) never becomes obsolete.
Even so, we still have to update our software programming. That happens
as we confess our sin and commit ourselves to godliness every day.
