-- Isaiah 1:18
"Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD.
"Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."
-- Proverbs 28:13-14
13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper,
but whoever
confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
14 Blessed is the man who always fears the LORD,
but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.
-- 1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will
forgive us our sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness.
-- Matthew 6:12
Forgive us our sins, just as we have
forgiven those
who have sinned against us.
----------------------
Bringing our needs to God … offering praise and thanksgiving …
these are important elements of Prayer. But something else is
equally important: Confessing our sins.
If you have never opened your heart and life to Jesus Christ, the
very first Prayer you need to make is one of confession. Tell God
you know you are a sinner and you want to turn from your sins.
Then by
faith ask Christ to take away your sins and come into
your life as your Lord and Savior – and He will. The Bible says,
“Everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins
through His name” (Acts 10:43).
This is God’s promise to you,
and to all who turn to Him in repentance and faith.
Why delay any longer giving your life to Christ?
Even when we know Christ, however, we still sin, and we still
need to come to Him for cleansing and restoration. When you
know you have sinned, don’t let anything – shame, guilt, pride,
fear, or anything else – keep you from confessing it to God and
seeking His forgiveness. One of the Bible’s greatest promises is
found in
1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and
just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness.” Seek God’s forgiveness, and then make
the psalmist’s Prayer yours:
“Create in me a pure heart,
O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10).
-- Billy Graham – “The Journey”
----------------------
-- Luke 24:46-47
46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and
rise from the dead on the third day,
47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in
His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
-- Matthew 6:9-15
9 "This, then, is how you should Pray:
"’Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name,
10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 Forgive us our sins,
just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ‘
(For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.)
14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you,
your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if you do not forgive men their sins,
your Father will not forgive your sins.
-- Mark 11:24-25
24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in
Prayer,
believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
25 And when you stand Praying, if you hold anything against anyone,
forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may
forgive you your sins.
-- Matthew 3:6
Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
-- Matthew 9:6
But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority
on earth to forgive sins…." Then He said to the paralytic,
"Get up, take your mat and go home."
-- Matthew 26:26-28
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it,
and gave it to His disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is My Body."
27 Then He took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying,
"Drink from it, all of you.
28 This is My Blood of the covenant,
which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
-- Ephesians 1:7
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness
of
sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.
-- Romans 10:9-10
9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and
believe
in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified,
and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
-- Acts 2:37-39
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to
Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you,
in the Name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.
And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off
--
for all whom the Lord our God will call."
-- Acts 13:38-39
38 Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that
through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.
39 Through Him everyone who believes is justified from everything
you could not be justified from by the Law of Moses.
-- Hebrew 10:17-18
17 Then He adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember
no more." (Jer. 31:34)
18 And where these have been forgiven,
there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.
-- James 5:14-16
14 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to
Pray over him and anoint him with oil in the Name of the Lord.
15 And the Prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well;
the Lord will raise him up.
If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and Pray for
each other so that you may be healed.
The Prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
-- Luke 6:37
Do not judge, and you will not be judged.
Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.
Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
-- Colossians 3:13
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may
have against one another.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
-- Romans 4:6-8
6 David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness
of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
7 "Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
8 Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against Him."
(Psalm 32:1,2)
-- Titus 2:11-14
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.
12 It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions,
and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
13 while we wait for the blessed hope --
the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify
for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good.
-- Hebrews 10:22-24
22 Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and
having our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess,
for He who promised is faithful.
24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward
love and good deeds.
---------------------
-- Nehemiah 9:3
They stood where they were and read from the Book of the Law of
the LORD their God for a quarter of the day, and spent another
quarter in
confession and in worshiping the LORD their God.
-- Daniel 9:4-5, 19
4 I Prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: "O Lord, the great
and awesome God, who keeps His covenant of love with all who
love Him and obey His commands.
5 we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have
rebelled; we have turned away from Your commands and laws. ...
19 O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For Your sake,
O my God, do not delay, because Your city and Your people bear
Your Name."
-- Psalms 32:1-7
1 Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
2 Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him
and in whose spirit is no deceit.
3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning
all day long.
4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me;
my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. <Selah>
5 Then I acknowledged my sin to You and did not cover up
my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"—
and You forgave the guilt of my sin. <Selah>
6 Therefore let everyone who is godly Pray to You while You may be found;
surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him.
7 You are my hiding place; You will protect me from trouble and surround
me with songs of deliverance. <Selah>
-- Psalms 51:1-13
1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your unfailing love;
according to Your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
4 Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in
Your sight, so that You are proved right when You speak and
justified when You judge.
5 Surely I was sinful at birth,
sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
6 Surely You desire truth in the inner parts;
You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.
7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
8 Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones You have crushed rejoice.
9 Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.
10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and
grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
and sinners will turn back to You.
-- Psalms 79:9
Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of Your name;
deliver us and forgive our sins for Your name’s sake.
-- Psalms 130:2-5
2 O Lord, hear my voice. Let Your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.
3 If You, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?
4 But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared.
5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I put my hope.
-- Psalms 103:2-5
2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:
3 Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.
4 Who redeems your life from destruction and crowns you with
love and compassion,
5 Who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is
renewed like the eagle’s.
