Oct.20.06: Light for the Day - "Encouraging Others"
(Viet)  (C)  (S)  (F)

-- 2 Timothy 4:2

Preach the Word
   Be prepared in season and out of season;
   Correct, rebuke and encourage --
   With great patience and careful instruction.

-- 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
16 May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father,
     who loved us and by His grace gave us eternal
     encouragement and good Hope,
17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you
     in every good deed and word.

-- Psalms 138:3

When I pray, You answer me;
   You encourage me by giving me the strength I need.

Find the good and applaud.  -- Zig Ziglar

For every critical comment we receive, it takes nine affirming
comments to even out the negative effect in our life.  -- Jim Burns

Many of the great accomplishments in history began as one person’s
vision or dream. But few of those accomplishments would have
materialized without the support and encouragement of others.
The role of encouragement cannot be underestimated. Imagine an
inventor struggling to solve a problem with his new invention. Or a
parent wrestling with the challenge of raising a temperamental teenager.
The support of others greatly improves their chances for success.

The Israelites faced a true test when they began to rebuild the walls
following their return to Jerusalem. Each day as they endeavored to
build the wall – a monumental construction project – they faced the
imminent threat of enemy nations and the obstacle of limited resources.
Morale dropped. But their leader, Nehemiah, kept encouraging the
people. He calmed their fears of being attacked by placing families
on guard where the wall had yet to be completed. His strategy was
brilliant. The workers confidence, the enemies gave up their threat,
and the wall was completed in fifty-two days.

Without Nehemiah’s encouragement, the Israelites might have never
finished the wall. What made his encouragement effective, however,
wasn’t necessarily the words he spoke, but the love for his people.
Love is the cornerstone of encouragement.

When you truly love someone, your words of support for that person
are full of significance and make a meaningful difference. Love also
compels you to walk beside someone rather than to wave and to cheer
from a distance. The commitment to partner with them in the middle
of the struggle generates optimism and fuels the possibility of success.

Supporting others also means spending time together. Listening to
their frustrations. Offering words of support. Letting people know that
even though you can’t always be with them, you will be praying for them.

Sometimes encouragers must redirect those they wish to uplift. When
a friend chooses an impossible path, your role may be to gently
redirect that person. Your encouragement to try a new idea or
approach can save the person from repeatedly hitting a wall.
As long as your redirection is born out of concern and love,
your words will make a difference.

One of the most important responsibilities of an encourager is that of
reminding. People who face challenges need to be reminded that God
is near. They need to be reminded that others have gone before them
and been victorious, and they need to be reminded that you believe in
them. Your encouragement can breathe fresh hope into a circumstance
that was once decorated with despair.

-----------------------

-- Acts 20:2

Paul traveled through that area, speaking many words of
   encouragement to the people, and finally arrived in Greece.

-- Acts 9:31

Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a
   time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the
   Holy Spirit,
it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord.

-- Acts 13:15

After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue
   rulers sent word to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have a
   message of encouragement for the people, please speak."

-- Romans 1:11-12
11 For I long to visit you so I can share a spiritual blessing with you
     that will help you grow strong in the Lord.
12 I’m eager to encourage you in your faith
     but I also want to be encouraged by yours
.
     In this way, each of us will be a blessing to the other.

-- Romans 12:6-13
6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.
   If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith.
7 If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;
8 if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to
   the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership,
   let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.
     Honor one another above yourselves.
11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor,
     serving the Lord.
12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
13 Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

-- Romans 15:4-7
4 For everything that was written in the past was written to
   teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement
   of the Scriptures we might have Hope.

5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give
   you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus.

-- 1 Corinthians 14:1-4
1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts
   especially the gift of prophecy.
2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men
   but to God. Indeed, no one understands him;
   he utters mysteries with his spirit.
3 But everyone who prophesies speaks to men
   for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort.

4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself,
   but he who prophesies edifies the church.

-- 2 Corinthians 1:2-4
2 Grace and Peace to you from God our Father and
   the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
   the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,
4 Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those
   in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

-- Philippians 1:14

Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been
   encouraged to speak the word of God
more courageously
   and fearlessly.

-- Philippians 2:1-5
1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ,
   if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit,
   if any tenderness and compassion,
2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded,
   having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit,
   but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests,
   but also to the interests of others.
5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

-- 1 Thessalonians 5:11-13
11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up,
     just as in fact you are doing.

12 Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among
     you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you.
13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work.
     Live in peace with each other.
14 And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle,
     encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.

-- Philemon 1:7

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement,
   because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.

-- Hebrews 10:25

Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing,
   but let us encourage one another --
   and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

--------------
-- Psalms 143:8

Let the morning bring me Word of Your unfailing love,
   For I have put my trust in You.
   Show me the way I should go,
   For to You I lift up my soul.

-- Psalms 27:14

Wait for the LORD;
   Be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

-- Isaiah 65:24

Before they call I will answer;
   While they are still speaking I will hear.

-- Isaiah 12:2

Surely God is my salvation;

I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD,
   The LORD, is my strength and my song;
   He has become my salvation.

-- Isaiah 40:28-31
28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the
     everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not
     grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary and
     increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
31 But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength
     They will soar on wings like eagles;
     they will run and not grow weary,
     they will walk and not be faint.

-- Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you;
   Do not be dismayed, For I am your God.
   I will strengthen you and help you;
   I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

-- Nehemiah 1:5
   Then I said: "O LORD, God of heaven,
   The great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant of love
   with those who love Him and obey His commands."

-- Psalms 29:11

The LORD gives Strength to His people;
  The LORD blesses His people with Peace.
