Nov.15.06: Light for the Day - "I Arise Today"    (Viet)  (C)  (S)  (F)

-- Psalms 5:3

In the morning, O LORD, You hear my voice;
   In the morning I lay my requests before You and wait in expectation.

-- Psalms 130:5-6
5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His Word I put my hope.
6 My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning,
   more than watchmen wait for the morning.

-- Isaiah 33:2
   O LORD, be gracious to us; we long for You.
   Be our strength every morning,
   Our salvation in time of trouble.

"I Arise Today"

I Arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation.

I Arise today
Through the strength of Christ's birth and His baptism,
Through the strength of His crucifixion and His burial,
Through the strength of His resurrection and His ascension,
Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom.

I Arise today
Through the strength of the love of cherubim,
In obedience of angels,
In service of archangels,
In the hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In the prayers of patriarchs,
In preachings of the apostles,
In faiths of confessors,
In innocence of virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.

I Arise today
Through the strength of heaven;
Light of the sun,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of the wind,
Depth of the sea,
Stability of the earth,
Firmness of the rock.

I Arise today
Through God's strength to pilot me;
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's Word to speak for me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's way to lie before me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's hosts to save me
From snares of the devil,
From temptations of vices,
From every one who desires me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone or in a multitude.

I summon today all these powers between me and evil,
Against every cruel merciless power that opposes my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom,
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of women and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man's body and soul.
Christ shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that reward may come to me in abundance.

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.

I Arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through a confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation.

-- St. Patrick (ca. 377)

-- Psalms 119:147-149
147 I rise before dawn and cry for help;
       I have put my hope in Your Word.
148 My eyes stay open through the watches of the night,
       that I may meditate on Your Promises.
149 Hear my voice in accordance with Your Love;
       Preserve my life, O LORD, according to Your Laws.

-- Isaiah 40:28-31
28 Do you not know? Have you not heard?
     The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
     He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
31 But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
     They will Soar on wings like eagles;
     They will Run and not grow weary;
     They will Walk and not be faint.

-- Mark 1:35

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up,
   left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.

-- Matthew 28:19-20
19 Therefore Go and Make disciples of all nations, Baptizing them in
     the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 and Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
     And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

-- Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;
   and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
   Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

-- Ephesians 3:14-21
14 For this reason I kneel before the Father,
15 from whom His whole Family in heaven and on earth derives its Name.
16 I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you
     with power through His Spirit in your inner being,
17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through Faith.
     And I pray that you, being rooted and established in Love,
18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide
     and long and high and deep is the Love of Christ,
19 and to know this Love that surpasses knowledge --
     that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
20 Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask
     or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us,
21 to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout
     all generations, for ever and ever! Amen

-- Colossians 1:3-6
3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
   when we pray for you,
4 Because we have heard of your Faith in Christ Jesus and
   of the Love you have for all the saints --
5 The Faith and Love that spring from the Hope that is stored up for you
    in heaven and that you have already heard about in the Word of truth,
    the Gospel
6 that has come to you. All over the world this Gospel is bearing fruit
   and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day
   you heard it and understood God’s grace in all its truth.

-- 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count
     you worthy of His calling, and that by His power He may fulfill every
     good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your Faith.
12 We pray this so that the Name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified
     in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and
     the Lord Jesus Christ.

-- Colossians 4:2-4
2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message,
   so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.
4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.

-- Hebrews 4:16

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we
   may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

-- 2 Corinthians 13:14

May the Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Love of God,
   and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
