Nov.30.06: Light for the Day - "Bible Study"    (Viet)  (C)  (S)  (F)

-- 2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete,
thoroughly equipped for every good work.

-- Psalms 119:105-106, 11, 147
105 Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it,
that I will follow Your righteous Laws.
11 I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You.
147 I rise before dawn and cry for help;
I have put my hope in Your Word.

The Bible is Alive, it speaks to me; it has hands, it lays hold on me.
-- Martin Luther

Men turn this way and that in their search for new sources of comfort
and inspiration, but the enduring truths are to be found in the Word of God.
-- Elizabeth, The Queen Mother

--------------------
The Bible is God’s Word. God also speaks His Living Word to you in spirit and truth, using circumstances, the wisdom of others, and the still small voice in our hearts. But there is nothing like regular Bible study to help you build a solid foundation in your daily walk of faith. If you wish to nurture a deeper spiritual life, systematic Bible study is indispensable.

There are over 37,000 promises to be found in the Bible as well as history, prophesy, wisdom literature, letters, and instruction. Because the sixty-six books of the Bible were written over a span of thousand and hundreds of years and in different cultures and literacy forms, a good Bible handbook will help you understand the background of what you are reading, helping you get the most from the text. One or more Bible commentaries can offer further insight. Bible encyclopedias help you look things up by subject. A fine study Bible often will have some form of these resources together in the same volume.

Here are some ways to study the Bible to help you unearth the treasures contained in God’s Word.

+ Topical studies: Select a topic and trace it through the Scriptures. For instance, you can do a study on home, or faith, or the kingdom of God.

+ Character studies: The study of various people in the Bible will reward you with rich insight into your own life. Start with a study of Jesus Christ, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, King David, Daniel, Jesus' Disciples, Esther, Sarah, or Mary and see what their stories teach you about yourself and your relationship to God.

+ Book studies: These help you understand the Bible through the study of one book as a whole. Begin with the Gospel of John or one of Paul’s epistles.

+ Memorize verses: You can hide the promises of God in your heart when you memorize Scripture.

+ Psalms: For centuries Christians have read Psalms for daily devotion. You can read a single Psalm per day or buy a Psalter that breaks the Psalms into a month of daily readings. These are thirty-one chapters in Proverbs, for thirty-one days of the month, too.

+ Reading the Bible through in a year: There are various reading plans available to guide you through the entire Bible in a year’s time.

+ Chapters and important passages: Studying some of the most beloved chapters or sections of Scripture offers you a way to access the gems of biblical literature. Here are a few of the Golden Chapters of the Bible to start with : The Beatitudes (Sermon on the Mount) – Matthew 5-7 ; Heaven – John 14 ; Prosperity – Psalm 73 ; Love – 1 Corinthians 13 ; ...

+ The Life of Christ: Read through the four Gospels, or start with the Gospel of John to understand the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is the life that is the fulfillment of all of the Scriptures. There is no substitute for reading the Words of Christ for yourself, so that He can speak directly to your heart.

You can also claim the promises found in the Bible. These promises are based on God’s character, not on human abilities, so portions of Scripture to make your own, personalizing them for your life situation. You can search out a particular promise for a Write the Bible promise down in your journal and write about the situation you want to apply this promise to. Write about promise on a 3 x 5 index card and post it over your mirror so you Memorize the promise so that you carry it in your heart. Pray the promise back to God as affirmation of faith. Be sure to record God’s answers to your prayers in your journal so you can trace your growth in understanding and applying God’s Word.

"Blessed rather are those who hear the Word of God and obey it."

-- Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any
double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit,
joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

-- Matthew 5:18

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest
letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear
from the Law until everything is accomplished.

-- Matthew 24:35 (Mark 13:31; Luke 21:33)

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Words will never pass away.

-- 1 Peter 1:25

But the Word of the LORD endures forever.

18 I warn everyone who hears the Words of the Prophecy of this Book:
If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues
     described in this Book.
19 And if anyone takes Words away from this Book of Prophecy,
God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and
in the holy city, which are described in this Book.

-- Psalms 19:7-8
7 The Law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

8 The Commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart.
The Commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight to life.

-- Proverbs 30:5

Every word of God is flawless;
He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.

-- Isaiah 40:8

The grass withers and the flowers fall,
But the Word of our God stands forever.

-- Isaiah 55:6-11
6 Seek the LORD while He may be found;
Call on Him while He is near.
7 Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts.
Let him turn to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him,
and to our God, for He will freely pardon.

8 "For My Thoughts are not your thoughts,
Neither are your ways My Ways," declares the LORD.
9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My Ways higher
than your ways and My Thoughts than your thoughts.

10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not
return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 So is My Word that goes out from My mouth:
It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."
