Dec.15.06: Light for the Day - "Jesus, the Hope for Christmas" (Viet)  (C)  (S)  (F)

A little Child, a Shining Star, a stable crude,
the door ajar; but in that place, so crude, forlorn,
THE HOPE OF ALL THE WORLD WAS BORN.

------------
-- Luke 2:9-20
9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory
   of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
10 Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold,
     I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
11 "For there is born to you this day in the city of David a
     Savior, Who is Christ the Lord.
{"The Christ" (Greek) and "the Messiah" (Hebrew) both mean "the Anointed One"}
12 "And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe
     wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of
     the heavenly host praising God and saying:

14 "Glory to God in the highest,
     And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"
15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven,
     that the shepherds said to one another,
     "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come
     to pass, which the Lord has made known to us."
16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph,
     and the Babe lying in a manger.
17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known
     the saying which was told them concerning this Child.
18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things
     which were told them by the shepherds.
19 But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.
20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for
     all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.

"If You Look for Me at Christmas"

You won't need a special Star --
I'm no longer just in Bethlehem,
I'm right there where you are.

You may not be aware of Me
amid the celebrations --
You'll have to look beyond the stores
and all the decorations.

But if you take a moment
from your list of things to do
And listen to your heart, you'll find
I'm waiting there for you.

You're the one I want to be with,
you're the reason that I came,
And you'll find Me in the stiffness
as I'm whispering your name.

Love,

Jesus Christ

------------

It was not the angel's message
That gave the Christmas thought
Nor yet the gold and incense
Which the wise men had brought.

It was not the star that led them
Upon the unknown way;
It was the Birth of Jesus
That makes the Christmas day!

-- Annie Johnson Flint

--------------------

What can I give Him,
Poor as I am?

If I were a sepherd,
I would bring a lamb,
If I were a wise man,
I would do my part, --

Yet what can I give Him?
Give my heart.

-- Christina Rossetti

-- Matthew 2:10-11
10 When the wise men saw the star,
     they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child
     with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him.
     And when they had opened their treasures,
     they presented gifts to Him: Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh.

"The Celebration"

The Father sent an invitation
To the rich and to the poor;
"Come attend a celebration
Like one never held before."

He had made a proclamation:
"I will send My Son in love,
To be your friend and Savior;
The Gift - One perfect -
From above."

The joyous shouting of the angels,
"Praise to God and peace to men,"
Rings throughout
The endless ages,
And we hear it now as then.

Jesus came to bring salvation
To the rich and to the poor
Within our hearts a celebration -
Like we'd never known before.

Let us sing out with the angels,
"Praise to God and peace to men,"
For throughout eternal ages,
Celebrations will not end.

-- Jeanne M. Roth

-- John 1:14

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.
   We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only,
   Who came from the Father, full of Grace and Truth.

-- Luke 19:38

"Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!" (Psalm 118:26)
   "Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"

"My Gift"

You gave Your all, Lord,
you gave us Your best!
Because of Your love,
we've been truly blessed!

You've given so much
and that is the reason,
I'm giving to You,
this Holiday season...

All of myself, and all I can be
a heart full of thanks, I give to Thee;
For the love and compassion
that You've given to me.

There's no way I could ever
begin to repay
All the mercy and grace,
You have sent my way.

I just want You to know Lord
that I love You more,
Each day that I live
more than ever before!

It's all that I have Lord,
this gift of my love,
But it's sent from my heart
on the wings of Your dove!

-- Helen Johnson

-----------------

-- John 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His One and
     Only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish
     but have Eternal Life.
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn
     the world, but to save the world through Him.

-- Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign:
   The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a Son,
   and will call Him Immanuel ("God with us").

-- Isaiah 9:6
   For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the
   government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called
   Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,
   Prince of Peace.

-- Psalms 96:11-13
11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;
     Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it.
     Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the LORD.
13 For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth.
     He shall judge the world with righteousness,
     And the peoples with His truth.

-- Psalms 98
1 Oh, sing to the LORD a new song!
   For He has done marvelous things;
   His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.
2 The LORD has made known His salvation;
   His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations.
3 He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to
   the house of Israel; All the ends of the earth have seen
   the salvation of our God.
4 Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth;
   Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.
5 Sing to the LORD with the harp,
   With the harp and the sound of a psalm,
6 With trumpets and the sound of a horn;
   Shout joyfully before the LORD, the King.
7 Let the sea roar, and all its fullness,
   The world and those who dwell in it;
8 Let the rivers clap their hands;
   Let the hills be joyful together before the LORD,
9 For He is coming to judge the earth.
   With righteousness He shall judge the world,
   And the peoples with equity.
