Dec.22.06: Light for the Day - "O Holy Night!"
(Viet)  (C)  (S)  (F)

-- Luke 2:11-14
11 "For there is born to you this day in the city of David
     a Savior,   Who is Christ the Lord.

{"The Christ" (Greek) and "the Messiah" (Hebrew) both mean "the Anointed One"}
12 "And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Baby
     wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of
     the heavenly host praising God and saying:

14 "Glory to God in the highest,
     And on earth Peace, Goodwill toward men!"

-- Luke 19:38

"Blessed is the King who comes in the Name of the Lord!"
   "Peace in heaven and Glory in the highest!"

"O Holy Night!"

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

     Fall on your knees!
     O, hear the angel voices!
     O night divine,
     O night when Christ was born;
     O night, O night divine, O night Divine.

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here come the wise men from Orient land.
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friend.

He knows our need, to our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend!
Behold your King, Behold your King.
Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.

Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.

Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
His power and glory evermore proclaim.

-- Adolphe Adam, John Sullivan Dwight

"Silent night"

Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from Heaven afar
Heav'nly hosts sing Alleluia
Christ the Saviour is born
Christ the Saviour is born

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace

Jesus, Lord at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth

-- Fr. Josef Mohr, Franz X. Gruber

"A Holy Night"

In Bethlehem on a Holy Night
A virgin gave birth to a Baby Boy
The angels announced HIS birth
The Holy SON of GOD had come to earth.

HE was sent From HIS Father above
To live and dwell among men
HE, one day would give HIS life
As a ransom for our sin.

Many dusty roads HIS blessed feet trod
This HOLY SON of GOD
One last road led to a cruel cross
Where with HIS life, He paid the greatest cost.

JESUS, YOU are the true joy of this Holy season
YOU are the star, shining from the top of the tree
Without that holy night in Bethlehem
For us, no hope would there be.

-- Elizabeth Ann Biggs

"Oh Holy Night"

Send Your Love from Heaven
With soft and gentle prayer
Keep us all within Your Heart
We'll know that You are near

As snow falls down upon us
In softest sweet array
The beauty of Your Love for us
Is touched by hearts this day

Waves of life not smooth now
The world so filled with fear
Jesus please come hold us now
We need Your Love right here

Walk with us Sweet Jesus
Come to us we pray
Let choirs of the Heavens
Announce You're on the way

O Holy Night of Miracles
Your Sweet and Gentle Hands
Reached out for the universe
This done by God's command

Look upon Your Children
With eyes that shine so bright
Within our hearts forever
Your flame of Love ignite.

-- Francine Pucillo

"Joy to the world!"

Joy to the world! The Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing.

Joy to the earth! The Savior reigns
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

-- Isaac Watts, Lowell Mason, Handel

-- John 1:14

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.
   We have seen His Glory, the Glory of the One and Only,
   Who came from the Father, full of Grace and Truth.

-- John 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His One and
     Only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish
     but have Eternal Life.
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn
     the world, but to save the world through Him.

-- Psalms 95:1-2
1 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD!
   Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving;
   Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.

-- Psalms 96:1-4
1 Oh, sing to the LORD a new song!
   Sing to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Sing to the LORD, bless His name;
   Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
3 Declare His glory among the nations,
   His wonders among all peoples.
4 For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised;
   He is to be feared above all gods.
