-- Genesis 3:20
Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living. -- Ephesians 6:1-3 (Ex. 20:12; Deut. 5:16) 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 Honor your father and mother -- which is the first commandment with a promise: 3 that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life. ~ A. Lincoln Who ran to help me when I fell, And would some pretty story tell, Or kiss the place to make it well? My Mother. ~ A.Taylor Before the child is born, Anxious prayers ascend to heaven, The young mother depends on God, To nurture the life she's been given. When the mother hears the first cry, The tiny child claims her heart, A bond that cannot be broken, Deep passionate love from the start. God is the author of this love, To each mother it is given, To minister to a newborn child, A new life bestowed from heaven. When the child grows old, The mother's love is still there, For she has not left her duty, She still wraps the child in prayer. Remember your mother, Honor her with your love, For she is the gift that was given, To you from God above. -- Julie L. McCarty Mother's Day is set apart every year in honor of motherhood. On the second Sunday in May, many families and churches make a special point of honoring mothers. Mother's Day, first observed in 1908, was recognized officially by Congress and President Woodrow Wilson in 1914. It is celebrated in honor of the nation's mothers on the second Sunday in May. Mother's Day is one of the holidays that have been designated by Presidential proclamations. A day for honoring mothers was observed many years ago in England. It was called Mothering Sunday, and came in mid-Lent. Europe and people in other nations have observed similar days. The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother. ~ Anonymous Mothers Are Earth Angels Mothers are an exciting blend, Of tough love and compassion, Of honor, truth, and feeling, And all things 'old-fashioned'. They teach forgiveness and patience, And God's Golden Rule... To always love one another, And to never be mean or cruel. Mothers love to talk with Jesus, She's always careful to say, That we should be obedient, To keep us from going astray. When her children are sad and lonely, Or they are sick in bed, She's always there to help them, Through those times they dread. If they get smart and sassy, She will give them that "look" And send them to their room, To read God's Good Book! And when they say they are sorry, She gives a big, bear, hug... Life with mothers is interesting, It's never dull or humbug! So, take the time to tell her, How she has helped you through, All those 'growing-up' years, Whether happy or blue. Mothers are earth angels, Their love will never end... Treat her with respect and kindness; She is your closest friend. Give her the hug of the century, And a fragrant rose bouquet... There's no need for many words, Just, "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!" -- Eva Young A mother who is really a mother is never free. ~ H.D.Balzac: Mother – that was the bank where we deposited all our hurts and worries. T.D.Talmage There is only one pretty child in the world, and every mother has it. ~ Chinese Proverb -- Luke 1:43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? -- Luke 2:51 Then Jesus went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But His mother treasured all these things in her heart. -- John 19:26-27 26 When Jesus saw His mother standing there beside the disciple He loved, He said to her, "Woman, he is your son." 27 And He said to this disciple, "She is your mother." And from then on this disciple took her into his home. A Mother A Mother is a special person In the eyes of Jesus Christ, Who cherished His own mother To the very end of life. Mothers have hands so gentle, To soothe away the pains; Ears to hear all problems, And help set them right again A Mother’s heart is open When a wayward child returns; Forgiveness shows a part of love For which her child now yearns. Mothers never do give up On any straying child But teach them courage as they grow, Remaining meek and mild. A hug is always ready, Waiting at the door When the grown child comes home To mother’s arms once more. God bless you today dear mother For the trials you’ve been through To raise your baby, now full grown May God the Father honor you. -- Joyce Guy I cannot forget my mother. She is my bridge. On this special day, Mother dear, I want to remember you. I cannot give you costly gifts, And I've told you this before, No matter what I give you, You give back much, much more. I'm giving you a pure, sweet rose, Gathered in the early morn, This rose you planted in my heart, The day that I was born. In kindly, loving thoughts of you, And with the faith you still impart, The rose I give to you today Is the love that's in my heart. -- Cleo M. Shoffstall -- Psalms 71:5-6 5 For You have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth. 6 From birth I have relied on You; You brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise You. -- Psalm 22:9-10 9 Yet You brought me Safely from my mother’s womb and led me to Trust You when I was a nursing infant. 10 I was thrust upon You at my birth. You have been my God from the moment I was born. The Fruit of the Spirit My mother is a Christian, In every important way; The fruit of the Holy Spirit Is displayed in her every day. My mother is filled with kindness, With love and joy and peace; Her patience and her goodness Inspire, and never cease. She follows our Lord Jesus With faithfulness, and more; She’s gentle and has self control, She knows what prayer is for. Thanks, Mom, for being a Christian, And showing me how to be; I’ll follow your example For all eternity. -- Joanna Fuchs -- Galatians 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Thank You, Mom Mom, there are so many moments when I wish you knew... how much you matter to me, and how much I thank you for being such a wonderful mother. If there is happiness in my heart, it's because you helped put it there. If there is gentleness in my beliefs, it's because you showed me how to care. If there is understanding in my thinking, it's because you shared your wisdom. If there is a rainbow over my shoulder, it's because of your outlook and your vision. If there is a knowledge that I can reach out and I really can make some dreams come true, it's because I learned from the best teacher of all. I learned... from you. In the times of my life, whether we are near or far, please remember, Mom, that there could never be any mother more wonderful...than the one you are. -- Unknown -- 2 Timothy 1:5 I have been reminded of your Sincere Faith, which first Lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now Lives in you also. My Mother's Arms I still remember her songs of love, Melodies she sang as she rocked my troubles away. I fondly recall a friendship shared, Despite how I tried to grow up so fast. I appreciate a relationship so special, I hold her so dear to my heart. Although I am now married with a family of my own, We're never really apart. My mother has always listened to my dreams, And encouraged my heart to try. She has never told me, "I told you so", Even when some of the dreams died. Although I had two brothers, Mom never left any of us out. She always managed to be there for us all, Her devotion and love were never in doubt. I think back from time to time, And remember so much joy. And realize that despite my age, I will always be her little boy. -- Jay Parr -- Genesis 17:16 I will bless her (Sarah) and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her. -- Luke 1:28 And having come in, the angel (Gabriel) said to her (Mary), "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!" -- Proverb 1:8 (6:20) My child, hear the instruction of your father, And do not forsake the teaching of your mother. -- Proverbs 23:22, 25 22 Listen to you father; without him you would not exit. When your mother is old, show her your appreciation. 25 May your father and mother be glad; May she who gave you birth rejoice! -- Psalms 131:2 But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.
