(Home) (VN) (C1) (C2) (K) (S) (F) (It) (De) (Ar) ("Pray To Receive Christ") -- John 14:15-18 15 If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever -- 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Walter Knight tells the story about a little boy who had recently received Christ. "Daddy. how can I believe in the Holy Spirit when I have never seen Him?" asked Jim. "I'll tell you how." said his father, who was an electrician. The father took Jim to a power plant and showed him the generators. "This is where the power comes from to heat our stove and to give us light. We can't see the power, but it's in that machine and in the power lines," said the father. "Now, son, let me ask you a question: Do you believe in electricity?" he asked. "Yes, I believe in electricity," said Jim. "Of course, you do," said his father, "but you don't believe in it because you see it. You believe in it because you see what it can do. Likewise, you can believe in the Holy Spirit not because you see Him, but you see what He does in people's lives when they are surrendered to Christ and possess His power." -- Billy Graham Many people have come to Christ as a result of my participation in presenting the Gospel to them. It's all the work of the Holy Spirit. ~ Billy Graham Hymn: Holy Spirit, Truth Divine 1. Holy Spirit, Truth divine, dawn upon this soul of mine; Word of God and inward light, wake my spirit, clear my sight. 2. Holy Spirit, Love divine, glow within this heart of mine; kindle every high desire; perish self in thy pure fire. 3. Holy Spirit, Power divine, fill and nerve this will of mine; grant that I may strongly live, bravely bear, and nobly strive. 4. Holy Spirit, Right divine, King within my conscience reign; be my Lord, and I shall be firmly bound, forever free. ~ Samuel Longfellow (1892) Growing in the Spirit (Medley) Born in the Spirit Lord Jesus, You gave us Your Spirit. We received Him by simple faith. Your presence, Your power, Your life is here within. We're newborn, the children of Your grace, Lord, Lord! We're newborn, the children of Your grace! Sweet freedom is ours in Your Spirit. It's the freedom of childlike faith. We praise You! We trust You! We're walking in Your love. Rejoicing, we're growing day by day, Lord, Lord! Rejoicing, we're growing day by day! We Walk with Our Lord We walk with our Lord through the day; Just talk with our Lord through the day. His Spirit guides along the way. We walk with our Lord through the day. We walk in His love through the day. We talk in His love through the day. A helping hand, a word of grace- We walk in His love through the day. We live in His joy through the day, The joy of the Lord through the day. His greatness fills our lives with praise. We live in His joy through the day. Growing in Me Holy Spirit, Hallelujah, living in me! Christ my Lord is living in me! Love of God, so rich and true, Growing in me. Joy that shines in all I do Growing in me. Peace and patience have begun Growing in me. Kindness, goodness through the Son Growing in me. Gentleness and self-control Growing in me. Faithful till I reach the goal -- Growing in me. -- Ken Bible -- Luke 3:22 And the Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are My Son, whom I love; with You I am well pleased." -- Matthew 3:11 I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come One who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. -- Matthew 28:19-20 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. -- John 3:5-6 5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit." -- John 14:26-27 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. -- John 16:13-14 13 But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will bring glory to Me by taking from what is Mine and making it known to you. -- Mark 13:11 Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit. -- Philippians 1:19 For I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. -- Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. -- Acts 2:4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. -- Acts 13:2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." -- Acts 15:8 God, who knows the heart, showed that He accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as He did to us. -- Acts 20:28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which He bought with His own blood. -- Romans 5:5 And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us. -- Romans 8:15-18; 26 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. -- Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. --1 Corinthians 6:19-20 19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. -- Ephesians 1:13 You heard and believed the message of truth, the Good News that He has saved you. In Him you were sealed with the Holy Spirit whom He promised. -- Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God (by the way you live), with Whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. -- Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. -- 1 Thessalonians 1:2-6 2 We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. 3 We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we know, brothers loved by God, that He has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. 6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the Message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. -- Galatians 5:16-17, 22-26 16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. -- 2 Timothy 1:14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you -- guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. -- Titus 3:4-7 4 But -- “When God our Savior revealed His kindness and love, 5 He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. 6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. 7 Because of His grace He declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.” -- 2 Peter 1:21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. -- Jude 1:20-21 20 But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. 21 Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. -- Revelation 3:22 Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches. /////////////////////////// -- Zechariah 4:6 So the angel said to me, "This is the Word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty. -- Psalms 51:10-13 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. As it was with Christ Himself, so it is with His members. He was conceived by the Spirit, anointed by the Spirit, sealed by the Spirit. He was led into the wilderness by the Spirit, and by the Spirit He was raised from the dead; even so the members of Christ answer unto Christ Himself. All is by the Spirit; we are conceived by the Spirit, the same Spirit that sanctifies us; but first we receive the Spirit by way of Union, and then unction follows after; when we are knit to Christ by the Spirit, then it works the same in us as it did in Him. ~ Anonymous It is extraordinary power from God, not talent, that wins the day. It is extraordinary spiritual unction not extraordinary mental power, that we need. Mental power may fill a chapel but spiritual power fills the church with soul anguish. Mental power may gather a large congregation. but only spiritual power will save souls. What we need is spiritual power. - C.H.Spurgeon Trying to do the Lord's work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you. -- CT.Boom Men are God's method. The church is looking for better methods; God is looking for better men. What the church needs today is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more and novel methods, but men who the Holy Spirit can use - men of prayer, men mighty in prayer. The Holy Spirit does not come on machinery but on men. He does not anoint plans, but men - men of prayer. ~ E.McKendree I seek the will of the Spirit of God through, or in connection with, the Word of God. The Spirit and the Word must be combined. If I look to the Spirit alone without the Word, I lay myself open to great delusions. If the Holy Spirit guides us, He will do it according to the Scriptures and never contrary to them. ~ G.Muller If we want the Word of God to have authority in our life, there is only one way - obey it. If we want the Holy Spirit to have authority in our life, there is only one way - Obey Him. If we always obey impulses of fear or doubt or resentment, what will have authority over our minds? Fear, and doubt and resentment. ~ T.Marshall Holy Spirit of God, visit now this soul of mine, and tarry within it until the eventide. Inspire all my thoughts. Pervade all my imaginations. Suggest all my decisions. Lodge in my soul's most inward citadel, and order all my doings. Be with me in silence and in my speech, in my haste and in my leisure, in company and in solitude, in the freshness of the morning and the weariness of the evening. Give me grace at all times to rejoice in Thy mysterious companionship. J.Baillie |
