("Pray To Receive Christ")

-- Psalm 28:6-9
6 Praise be to the LORD,
For He has heard my cry for mercy.
++ 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped.
My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song.
8 The LORD is the strength of His people,
A fortress of salvation for His anointed one.
9 Save Your people and bless Your inheritance;
Be their shepherd and carry them forever.

-- Philippians 4:6-7
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The 57th Annual National Day of Prayer will take place
Thursday, May 1, 2008.

The theme for this year is "Prayer! America's Strength and Shield" and is based on the verse from Psalm 28:7 which states: "The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped."

The LORD's Prayer

-- Matthew 6:9-13
9 Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts (sin),
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power
and the glory forever. Amen.

Apostles Creed Prayer

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died, and was buried;
He descended to the dead.
The third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
He is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
And He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy (Christian) catholic Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

Serenity Prayer

Dear God, grant me:
The Serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and the Wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life,
and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen

-- 2 Chronicles 7:14-15
14 If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
15 Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

2008 Prayer for Our Nation

Holy Father, in a world where so many are hungry,
You have given us food in abundance;

In a world where so many are hurting,
You offer to bind up our wounds;

In a world where so many are lonely,
You offer friendship to every heart;

In a world longing for peace,
You offer hope.

Yet, we are so stubborn and resistant.
Have mercy upon us, Lord.

Our nation is at a crossroads this year;
we look to You to be our strength and shield.

Please give us the guidance to elect one who will honor You
and to respond to the wisdom from above
so that our hope may be renewed and our blessings be treasured.

In God's Holy Name.

-- Dr. Ravi Zacharias

How to Live an Effective Prayer Lifestyle

To be an effective person of prayer, you must have relationship with the One to whom you pray.

Above all else, prayer is an opportunity to enjoy intimacy with God. Prayer is all about relationship with Father God. God longs to have relationship with you.

To know God is to realize that we are in relationship, covenant relationship with Him. You are His child. He is your Father. You are His bride. He is your Groom.

Jesus warns us that we can do His works and not be known of God. (Matthew 7:21-29) - "21 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven....

How Can I Develop an Intimate Relationship with God?

* 1. Spend Time with the Lord, daily.
* 2. Study the Word of God
* 3. Worship
* 4. Repentance
* 5. Practice the Presence of the Lord:

Practice just "being with God." Just enjoy each others company. Sometimes, just sitting with the Lord in silence can bring deep communion and refreshment to your spirit, soul and body. An earthly example of this sort of "being", would be a loving couple who have been married for years. They do not have to say a word to each other yet a glance or a smile can pass on deep intimacy and "knowing."

You don't always have to be talking to Him. You don't always have to be expecting heavy revelation from heaven, in prayer, you can just enjoy being with Him.

Part of practicing the presence of God is to understand He is with you always. It is a biblical fact and is not based on your emotions. (Deut 31:6; Ps 23; 73:23; 121; 139; Isa 41; Mat 28:20; Heb 13:5; ...)

The presence of God is there all the time. Learning to know He is there, however, will take time and patience. Just drink in His love for in the presence of God, fear cannot reside, anxiety cannot reside, heaviness cannot abide. You need to learn to tune into His presence, it is always there, but we need to practice becoming aware of it.

-- From Web Prayer

-- Ecclesiastes 5:1-2
1 Guard your steps when you go to the House of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. 2 Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.

THE SECRET PLACE

-- Jeremiah 29:13
And you will seek Me and find Me,
when you search for Me with all your heart.
-- Psalm 27:8
When You said, "Seek My face,"
My heart said to You, "Your face, LORD, I will seek."
-- Psalm 91:1-2
1 He who dwells in THE SECRET PLACE of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD,
"He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust."

Do you have a place of shelter where you seek only His face? Do you spend time in that secret place? Have you given prayer the priority it deserves? And when you pray, do you remember that it is the Lord's face you seek?

It is possible to be engaged in the work of ministry, in the work of the church, yet be in secret very seldom. There is this great tendency to think our best work is done at our desk or on our feet . . . but it's really done on our knees.

It is easy to become so caught up in people's needs (which are endless and usually urgent) and to be so preoccupied with meeting those needs that we miss "the shelter of the Most High."

It is so easy to emphasize all the involvements of being with people, rather than being alone in a secret place with Him. And I do mean alone with God, as though there is not another care, another need, another person . . . only "the Almighty."

In the last year and a half, maybe two, I have begun to realize the value of this. As a result of time invested in the secret place, we gain an invincible sense of God's direction and the reassurance of His hand on our lives, along with an increased sensitivity regarding iniquity in our lives.

Being alone with God is not complicated, but it is tough to maintain. Nevertheless, we need secrecy, especially in this hyperactive, noisy, busy world of ours.

Consider the beauty, the wonder, the magnificence, the awe-inspiring times of praise in the secret place! There is nothing to be compared to it. As great as corporate worship may be, with a magnificent pipe organ and full orchestra and a congregation singing at full volume, it cannot compare to the secret place where our best work is done and where God's best work is accomplished in us.

When Jesus was instructing His disciples regarding prayer, He said,

(Matt. 6:6). "Pray to your Father who is in secret,
and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you"

Our best work is done on our knees.

And He will have mercy on him;
And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.

-- Mark 14:38

The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.

-- Romans 8:26-28
26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don’t even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. 28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.

-- Ephesians 6:18
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,
Being watchful to this end with all perseverance
and supplication for all the saints.

-- Colossians 4:2
Continue earnestly in prayer,
Being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.

-- Colossians 3:15-17
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. +++ 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

-- 1 Thessalonians 5:17-24
16 Rejoice always, 17 Pray without ceasing, 18 In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil. 23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.

-- Hebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace,
that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

When the world drops you to your knees,
take the opportunity to Pray!

Don't worry about anything, Pray about everything.

Though millions are bending God's ear in Prayer,
He listens to each individually.

More than anything else, Prayer is a relationship.

We cannot survive without communication.
Prayer is our communication with God. Do you want to survive?

The purpose of Prayer is to find God's will
and to make that will our Prayer.

God's answers are wiser than our Prayers.

Pray - don't think about it, because when you think about it,
you think what you want to happen and not what is really happening.

Rich is the person who has a Praying friend.

Where there is much Prayer, there will be much of the Spirit;
where there is much of the Spirit, there will be ever-increasing Prayer.
