("How To Receive Christ")

-- John 1:17
For the law was given through Moses;
Grace and Truth came through Jesus Christ.

-- John 8:31-32
31 To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, "If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples. 32 Then you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free."

-- John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me."

-- John 16:13-14
13 But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all Truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will bring glory to Me by taking from what is Mine and making it known to you.

The TRUTH (1)

In the Bible, Truth refers to what is dependable, tested, and trustworthy. It is firm and never changes. This contrasts with some Greek philosophies, where Truth is an idea or a principle that exists apart from the physical world that gets old and decays. Truth in the Bible is based on God's unchanging purpose for the world and all the people God created. The proper response to the Truth of God, therefore, is Trust in God's promises.

Trust is the basis for the special relationship between God and people throughout human history. Abraham trusted God's promises (Gen. 15:6). Jacob gave thanks for the ongoing love and faithfulness that God showed him in spite of his disobedience (Gen. 32:9-12). Moses praised God on Mount Sinai because God's love was continuing through each generation of His people (Exod. 34:5-8). God is always faithful, and God's promises and plans are True and trustworthy (Deut. 32:3-4). Just as plants always grow and the sun and stars always shine, so God's love and promises are forever dependable (Ps. 85:10-11).

In the New Testament, Jesus claimed that the prophet Isaiah's words were coming True because of the work the Spirit had chosen Jesus to do (Luke 4:16-20). In His teaching, Jesus frequently used the Hebrew word Amen to emphasize that what He says about God's will for His people is completely True and reliable (Matthew 5:18; 6:2; 8:10; 19:23; 24:2; 25:12;...). Jesus tells His followers that His death on a cross and His being raised from death carry out promises recorded in the (Jewish) Scriptures, and so are surely True (Luke 24:27, 45-47).

In JOHN, Jesus is the True light (1:9) who brings God's True word (1:1-3; 4:37). He is also the True food (6:30,55), the True vine (15:1), and the True way to God (John 14:6 - "I am the way and the Truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."), who brings the Spirit of Truth (John 16:13 - "But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all Truth."). And Jesus is the Truth of God (14:6). His people live by the actions and promises of God, and as a result, they are the people of Truth (John 4:23-24; 18:37; 1John 5:19-21) who hear and trust Him as the Living Word of God (John 1:1-5,12-14).

In the later letters of the New Testament, Truth comes to be understood in the more usual modern sense -- as what is correct, in contrast to what is false. There are warnings against false teaching (1Tim 1:3-4; 2Tim 2:16-18) and against those who are enemies of the Truth (James 3:13-18; 1Jn 1:10; 5:10; 2Thes 2:10), who tell senseless stories (Titus 1:10-14), and the Antichrist (1John 2:18-22; 4:1-6; 2John 1:7). These letters say the church should fight for the True faith (1Tim. 6:11-21) and should see itself as "the strong foundation of Truth" (1Tim. 3:14-15; 2Tim 3:12-17), which here means "Right Belief."

Trust God through Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit:

-- John 14:1
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; Trust also in Me."

-- 1 John 5:20
We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is True. And we are in Him who is True -- even in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the True God and eternal life.

-- 1 Peter 1:21-25
21 Through Him you believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and glorified Him, and so your faith and hope are in God. 22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the Truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
24 For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25 but the Word of the Lord stands forever." (Isaiah 40:6-8). And this is the Word that was preached to you.

-- John 4:23-24
++ 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and Truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in Truth."

-- Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

-- Matthew 24:35 (Mark 13:31; Luke 21:33)
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Words will never pass away.

The TRUTH (2)

Throughout the scriptures there is that which God designates as ‘the Truth.’ It is divine, and above the opinions of men, however wise and pious they may be. In the Old Testament the admonition is given, "Buy the Truth and sell it not." (Pr 23:23). ‘The Truth’ must refer to God, who is True, but is not called ‘the Truth:’ hence it comprises all that may be known of God, whether declared by creation or made known by revelation. Truth is not simply that which is held as dogma, but must be received in the soul.

Paul asked the Galatians who had hindered them that they should not obey ‘the Truth?’ (Ga 5:7). Judgment is coming upon Christendom "because they received not the love of ‘the Truth’ that they might be saved." (2Th 2:10). Truth is the real way of liberty: "the Truth shall make you free." (Joh 8:32,36). Truth cannot be separated from the Lord Jesus, who is "the way, the Truth, and the life." (John 14:6). This is objectively; subjectively the Spirit is the Truth as having come from the glorified Christ (John 16:13-14). In the three Epistles of John ‘the Truth’ is constantly referred to, and a Christian woman is warned not to receive any one into her house, nor wish him God-speed unless he holds the doctrines taught by the apostles -- in other words, ‘the Truth.’

-- Concise Bible Dictionary

-- John 3:5-7
5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the Truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'

-- John 6:46-48
46 No one has seen the Father except the One who is from God; only He has seen the Father. 47 I tell you the Truth, He who believes has everlasting life. 48 I am the bread of life.

-- John 17:17
Sanctify them by the Truth; Your word is Truth.

-- Proverbs 23:23
Buy the Truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding.

-- Galatians 5:7
You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the Truth?

-- 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10, 13
9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, 10 and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the Truth and so be saved.
13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the Truth.

The TRUTH (3)

Truth -- conformity to fact or actuality; faithfulness to an original or to a standard.

In the Bible, Truth is a fundamental moral and personal quality of God. God proclaimed that He is “merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and Truth” (Ex. 34:6). He is a “God of Truth . . . without injustice” (Deut. 32:4). Furthermore, all of His paths are “mercy and Truth” (Ps. 25:10). Frequently in the psalms, God’s mercy and His Truth are joined together (Ps. 57:3; 89:14; 115:1). All of God’s works, precepts, and judgments are done in righteousness and Truth (Ps. 96:13; 111:8).

Truth is a moral and personal characteristic of God: He is “the God of Truth” (Is. 65:16). The psalmist declared, “Your law is Truth” (119:142), “all Your commandments are Truth” (119:151), and “the entirety of Your word is Truth” (119:160). Because of His perfect nature and will, God has to speak and act in Truth; He cannot lie (1Sam. 15:29; Heb. 6:18; James 1:17–18).

Jesus is the Word of God who became flesh, “the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and Truth” (John 1:14). All Jesus said was True, because He told the Truth He heard from God (John 8:40). He promised His disciples that He would send “the Spirit of Truth” (John 14:17; 15:26; 16:13) -- a Helper who would abide in Christians forever (John 14:16), testify about Jesus (John 15:26), guide Christians into all Truth (John 16:13), and glorify Jesus (John 16:14).

God is Truth; the Spirit is Truth; and Jesus is Truth. Jesus said, “I am the way, the Truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). Jesus and the revelation the Spirit of Truth gave through His apostles are the final, ultimate revelation and definition of Truth about God, people, redemption, history, and the world. “The law was given through Moses, but grace and Truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:17).

-- 1 John 3:18-24
18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in Truth. 19 This then is how we know that we belong to the Truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in His presence 20 whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from Him anything we ask, because we obey His commands and do what pleases Him. 23 And this is His command: to believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as He commanded us. 24 Those who obey His commands live in Him, and He in them. And this is how we know that He lives in us: We know it by the Spirit He gave us.

-- 2 John 1:1-11
1 The elder, To the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the Truth -- and not I only, but also all who know the Truth -- 2 because of the Truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever: 3 Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father's Son, will be with us in Truth and love.
4 It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the Truth, just as the Father commanded us. 5 And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. 6 And this is love: that we walk in obedience to His commands. As you have heard from the beginning, His command is that you walk in love.
7 Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist. 8 Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. 9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. 11 Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work.

-- 3 John 1:1-4
1 The elder, To my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in the Truth. 2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. 3 It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell about your faithfulness to the Truth and how you continue to walk in the Truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the Truth.

-- Psalms 86:10-12
10 For You are great and do marvelous deeds; You alone are God. 11 Teach me Your way, O LORD, and I will walk in Your Truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name. 12 I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify Your name forever.

-- Psalms 119:30
I have chosen the way of Truth; I have set my heart on Your laws.

-- Psalms 145:17-19
17 The LORD is righteous in all His ways and loving toward all He has made. 18 The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on him in Truth. 19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them.
