A Prayer for Soldiers

Gracious God, we pray for our soldiers. Let Your grace be a protective shield, guarding them from harm and keeping them close to Your love and compassion. May we always remember that they are the ones who face the horrors and dangers of war first-hand. Help us honor them for their courage and care for them when there is damage to their bodies or spirit. When they are lonely and afraid, and long to be with those whom they love, fill their hearts with the sure knowledge of Your presence at all times, in war and peace. Let them feel, O God, deep in their hearts, that Your love is always there -- boundlessly, unconditionally, and eternally. Amen.

Memorial Day

We walked among the crosses
Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As TAPS began to play.

The Chaplin led a prayer
We stood with heads bowed low.
And I thought of fallen comrades
I had known so long ago.

They came from every city
Across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here 'neath the sand.

I felt a little guilty
My sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time
But these men lost their all.

Now the services are over
For this Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses
I just want to say,

Thanks for what you've given
No one could ask for more.
May you rest with God in heaven
From now through evermore

~ C.W.Johnson

Memorial Day

A time for picnics, time off work -
Vacations and the “Indy” -
A holiday, too often times
We forget what, it should be.

A time to pay respect to those
Who rallied to the battle cry -
Who gave their lives for liberty -
Those freedoms for you and I. .....

So as we share this holiday
With our friends or family -
Take a moment to give thanks to
Those who died so we’d stay free. ....

Let us give thanks this day
to all those brave
who paid the highest cost.
Not take it for granted

-- D.A.Jones

When I come to the end of my journey

When I come to the end of my journey
And I travel my last weary mile,
Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned
And remember only the smile.

Forget unkind words I have spoken;
Remember some good I have done.
Forget that I ever had heartache
And remember I've had loads of fun.

Forget that I've stumbled and blundered
And sometimes fell by the way.
Remember I have fought some hard battles
And won, ere the close of the day.

Then forget to grieve for my going,
I would not have you sad for a day,
But in summer just gather some flowers
And remember the place where I lay,

And come in the shade of evening
When the sun paints the sky in the west
Stand for a few moments beside me
And remember only my best.

~ M.L.Hancock

Someone Is Praying For You

Somewhere someone's praying
Down upon their knees
Lifting you before the Throne
With love and gentle pleas

Asking God to give you strength
To face another day
And when the night is darkest
Shine light upon your way

Somewhere someone's kneeling
To whisper your name in prayer
Knowing that you need to feel
God's love and tender care

They intercede on your behalf
Because they love you so
Knowing that you have a need
To their Father they will go

They pray when you're not able
To speak a single word
What peace there is in knowing
Their prayers will be heard

They lay you on the altar
As they kneel there at His feet
Giving all your cares to Him
There at the mercy seat

Our God is always listening
To every earnest prayer
When we look to Him for help
The answer is always there

It's such a comfort to know
That someone prays for you
Placed within His loving hands
Those prayers will see you through

As you kneel before the Father
Thank Him for those who care
When you bow before the mercy seat
Whisper their name in prayer

-- L.M.Oliver

Huymn: It Is Well with My Soul

1. When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.
It is well with my soul,
it is well, it is well with my soul.

2. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
let this blest assurance control,
that Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
and hath shed His own blood for my soul.
It is well with my soul,
it is well, it is well with my soul.

3. My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
It is well with my soul,
it is well, it is well with my soul.

4. And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
even so, it is well with my soul.
It is well with my soul,
it is well, it is well with my soul.

The Patriot ~ smile

Memorial Day weekend was coming up,
and the nursery school teacher
took the opportunity to tell her class
about patriotism.

"We live in a great country," she said.
"One of the things we should be happy is that,
in this country, we are all free."

One little boy came walking up to her
from the back of the room.
He stood with his hands on his hips and said...

"I'm not free. I'm four."

-- Romans 5:6-8
6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

-- Romans 14:7-9
7 We do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves. 8 If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that He might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

-- 1 Timothy 6:12
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

-- 2 Timothy 4:7
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

-- 2 Timothy 2:3
Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

-- Ephesians 6:10-18
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

+ 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. 18 And Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints (believers everywhere).

-- Matthew 11:28
Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

-- Psalms 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
