Dec 16.97: Light For The Day - "For OTHERS"

"For you were called to freedom, brothers;
only do not use your freedom as an opportunity
for the flesh, but through love be servants
of one another."
-- Galatians 5:13 (RSV)

--------------

The old Quaker was right: "I expect to pass through
this life but once. If there is any kindness or any
good thing I can do to my fellowbeings, let me do
it now. I shall pass this way but once."

"For OTHERS"

Lord, help me to live from day to day
In such a self-forgetful way,
That even when I kneel to pray,
My prayer shall be for OTHERS

Help me in all the work I do
To ever be sincere and true,
And know that all I'd do for you,
Must needs be done for OTHERS.

Let "Self" be crucified and slain,
And buried deep: and all in vain
May efforts be to rise again,
Unless to live for OTHERS.

And when my work on earth is done,
And my new work in Heaven's begun,
May I forget the crown I've won,
While thinking still of OTHERS~

Others, Lord, yes others
Let Ihis my motto be
Help me to live for others,
That I may live like Thee

-- Charles D. Meigs

-------------

"Live as free men, yet without using your freedom
as a pretext for evil; but live as servants of God."
-- 1Peter 2:16 (RSV)

"If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your
feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.
For I have given you an example, that you also
should do as I have done to you."
-- John 13:14 (RSV)
-------------

Prayer:
Teach me to use the gifts and talents You have
given me. Help me to do for myself and others
rather than wait for things to be done for me.
Give me the wisdom to know what to do and when.
Amen.-
