Oct 5.98: Light For The Day - "Tough Questions"

Tough questions?
Find answers in the Word.

" ... What must I do to be saved?"
-- Acts 16:30

------------------

You're in college because you like to think deep
thoughts. You enjoy a good conundrum now and
then. You've never met a brain teaser you didn't
like.

Either that or you're in college to play intramural
basketball and get away from your little brother.

Regardless of your REAL reason for spending a
bunch of somebody's money (yours, your parents',
Grandma's, the government's) to be at the academic
institution you selected, you have to admit there is
a challenge to this thing called "higher education."

You may even enjoy having your brain exercised
occasionally with something thought-provoking.
Such as:

- If the #2 pencil is so popular, why is it still #2?
- Before they invented drawing boards,
what did they go back to?
- If one synchronized swimmer were to drown,
do the rest have to drown too?
- How can you tell when sour cream goes bad?
- If an airplane black box flight recorder is so sturdy,
why don't they build the whole plane out of the stuff?

Tough questions, wouldn't you say? Seriously though,
life does toss us some tough questions-- questions
whose answers help us as we walk with God.

And some of life's most vital questions come right
from the Bible. Like the most basic:

"What must I do to be saved?" (Acts 16:30).

Or like the key question of Psalm 119:9, which asks,
"How can a young man keep his way pure?"

Or this about evangelism:
"How can they hear without someone preaching to
them?" (Romans 10:14).

The next time you are trying to make entertainment
choices, consider this question:
"What do righteousness and wickedness have in
common?" (2 Corinthians 6:14).

Or when temptation threatens,
"Shall we continue sinning so that grace may
increase?" (Romans 6:1).

Look for other such questions--and then dig the
answers out of Scripture. The answers to Bible
questions will go a long way toward helping you
with the holy life God has called you to live.

and you will be saved, you and your household."
