Oct 27.98: Light For The Day - "On The Razor's Edge"
"So they are no longer two but one flesh.
Therefore what God has joined together,
let man not separeate."
-- Matthew 19:6
-----------------
How many Christians' marriages rest on the razor's
edge of infidelity? Far more than we might suppose.
The act has not been done. But the thought is there.
The desire is there.
What causes this wandering of eye and heart?
There is no simple answer.
She mays think:
He does not appreciate me. I care for the children
twenty-four hours a day. He at least gets a day off,
and he never thinks about spending it with me.
all he wants is someone to keep his house, raise
his children, and ... How nice it would be to spend a
weekend with someone who cares about ME!
And he mays think:
All she is concerned about are the kids. She has
no idea of the pressure I am under at work. And bills,
bills, bills! Everything I make goes into feeding my
family and keeping a roof over their heads. How
nice it would be to spend a weekend with someone
who cares about ME!
How hopeless it all can seen.
We pray, perhaps more out of frustration than devotion.
We confess our weakness in the face of temptation.
And God pulls us back from the edge.
Resurrection takes place in this life, too.
Christian faith does have something to do with
faithfulness in marriage.
-- E.H.W.
Prayer:
Father, we pray for all of those struggling couples
who want to honor You with their lives but are sorely
tempted ... May Your Holy Spirit empower them to
resist the temptation. Amen.
