Nov 05.99: Light For The Day - "Prayer"
"I tell you to pray for all people, asking God for
what they need and being thankful to Him.
I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up
their hands in a holy manner, without anger
and arguments."
-- 1 Timothy 2:1,8 (NCV)
--------------------------
You wonder if it is a blessing or a curse to have
a mind that never rests. But you would rather
be a cynic than a hypocrite, so you continue to
pray with one eye open and wonder:
about starving children
about the power of prayer
about Christians in sickness, trouble ...
Tough questions. Throw-in-the-towel questions.
Questions the disciples must have asked in
the storm. All they could see were black skies
as they bounced in the battered boat ...
A figure came to them walking on the water.
It wasn't what they expected ... They almost
missed seeing the answer to their prayers.
And unless we look and listen closely,
we risk making the same mistake.
God's lights in our dark nights are as
numerous as the stars, if only we'll look
for them.
Prayer:
We come to you in prayer, Father.
We don't know the answers to the whys.
We depend on you.
We don't know all the answers,
but we know Who knows the answers.

"You will seek me and find me;
when you seek me with all your heart."
-- Jeremiah 29:13 (RSV)
"Yet even now," says the LORD, "return to me
with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping,
and with mourning."
-- Joel 2:12 (RSV)
